Shedding the baby weight!

I am officially back to my pre-baby weight!

I have been wanting to blog about this for a while but I wanted to wait until I shed ALL the prego pounds first. If you keep up with my blogs or know me then you know that for the last 3.5 years I have been pregnant or breast feeding. The second I weaned Josselyn (my 1st) and shed the baby weight I found out I was pregnant again and I immediately packed on another 25 lbs with Julianna (my 2nd). I am one of those mama's who nurses diligently & exclusively for 12 months (but not a day longer). Well, this past April Julianna turned 1 year old, I weaned her and I was ready to fit back into my clothes.

I am the type that loses all but about 10lbs within the first week of giving birth. That is a great thing but the problem is I have a heck of a time losing the last 10lbs. With Josselyn I held on to about 7lbs but the moment I started to wean the pounds fell off. We went on a cruise on Josselyn's 1st Birthday and I was back to my pre-baby weight (but then I found out I was pregnant again). This time I started to wean Julianna but the pounds stuck! Again, we went on a cruise when Jewel turned 1 and I half starved myself and lost maybe 2 lbs. I still had another 7-8 to lose! Now you may be thinking oh who cares about 8 lbs. Well, let me just say that when you are only 5'1 in height 8 lbs is what is keeping every pair of jeans in your closet from zipping! On our cruise I didn't dare take any pictures in my bikini and I wore my 1 piece swim suit the majority of the time or my bikini with a tank top over it. Although I am my own worst critic I like being at a place with my body/health that "I" am happy and comfortable with. I got back from the cruise and decided I wanted to really work at feeling my best and fitting back into my pre-baby clothes.

Diet & exercise are key however, I am already a pretty HEALTHY eater. I do not eat anything fried, I haven't had red meat in probably 12 years, I only drink skim or soy milk & I buy low fat everything. I do have a sweet tooth and that can definitely get me into trouble but it isn't that out of control. Although I would love to exercise more it is near impossible for me right now with a 1 & 2 year old. I did stroller fit "baby boot camp" when Jewel was first born but I was always late becasue there was no way I could get us all 3 ready and at the mall for our workout class by 9am, so I had to quit. After having Josselyn I did any and every 30 day challenge with a few weight loss companies you see advertise on Facebook and all I did was starve for 30 days (eating 8 almonds for a snack lol) and lose 1 pound. I was not about to torture myself or eat "less" because I am not a huge eater to begin with! I decided to try something new this time...

I started out using some of my mom's Slim 4 Life supplements. I took "carb/sugar Slim 700 blocker" & a "metabolizer". They were working great but cost a fortune!!!! I needed something more affordable that worked the same. I kept seeing my friends post supplements & body wraps from "IT WORK'S". I transitioned to the It Works "Fat Fighter" supplement which cost $23 vs $40 at Slim4 Life and I switched to the It Works "ThermoFit" metabolizer instead which is $39 vs $150 at Slim 4 Life. The weight began to fall off but I still couldn't quite get my pre-baby jeans to zip. I decided to try out some of those crazy It Works body wraps "Ultimate Body Applicator". (Now I had some major hesitations: does it last, is it just water weight, what is in the wrap, etc and I will address those at the bottom) Anyways, It was $59 for 4 Ultimate Body Applicator wraps which I thought was pretty good! After doing the first wrap my old jeans fit! I saw a tremendous difference in my before and after picture although I didn't lose inches my 1st wrap. Basically the wrap TIGHTEN, TONED & FIRMED my stomach and I didn't do any sit-ups, crunches, or change my diet. I actually was on a McDonalds chocolate dipped ice cream cone kick lol. After being able to fit back into EVERY single pair of my pre-baby jeans I decided I was sold! I ordered a few more and started wrapping! I also fell in love with their other products! They have the best health line, full of vitamins, greens, etc. One "Greens Chew" has the antioxidant strength of 20 cartons of blue berries!

(Left: In May not feeling confident in my swim suit / Right: Now after 2 body wraps)

I was so impressed with the IT WORKS products that even though I do not need the weight loss supplements anymore I am still going to use their vitamins, greens, and keep the body wraps on hand for maintenance (especially throughout bathing suit season!!!) I am so excited about all the It Works products that I decided to become a DISTRIBUTOR www.sheriswraps.com and sell the product to anyone who wants to try it! It is basically FREE to be a distributor, I get FREE products & a there is commission potential so I figured why not??? There are quite a few products I have wanted to sell before in the past, but it always cost so much to initially sign-up and sell them. This was the very 1st product I looked into that I didn't have to pay anything to sell besides pay the retail price for my 1st box of wraps (but I got a whole packet of distributor information with my first 4 wraps!) Now if you are like me and are a total SKEPTIC let me address the questions I had...

Q: Do you just lose water weight with the wraps?
A: The wraps are actually a detox. Our bodies need to detox the harmful substances/toxins we take in daily like (pesticides, microbes & mercury just to name a few). When you do the wraps you drink half your body weight in fluid ounces so yes you pee a ton but you are detoxing and with these botanically infused wraps you Tighten/Tone/Firm (in 45 mins). In the past I use to take water pills occasionally during my menstrual cycle to lose water weight but I never ever Tightened/Toned/Firm after peeing...did you??? So no you do not lose water weight you lose the toxins that are built up in your body!

Q: Do the results from these wraps even last?
A: The company says the wraps typically last 2-6 months if you do NOT change your diet/exercise routine. If you do change your diet/exercise routine the results can last longer. But as you intake toxins you do need some form of detox (which there are tons of ways to detox). They recommend doing 1-2 wraps every 8 weeks for maintenance. I personally am doing 1-2 wraps a month while I am going to be putting on a swim suit! lol But 1-2 every 8 weeks is how you can make sure to maintain. So that is around $7 a month.

Q: What ingredients are in these " crazy wrap things"
A: These wraps are all natural, the non-woven cloth wrap is infused with a powerful, botanically based formula that delivers maximum tightening, toning, and firming results wherever you need them in as little as 45 minutes! The ingredients include: Water (Aqua), Glucose, Caprylic /Capric, Triglyceride, Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Stearic Acid, Stearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth12, Aesculus hippocastanum (Horse Chestnut) Seed Extract, Urea, Centella asiatica (Hydrocotyl) Leaf Extract, Camellia sinensis (GreenTea) Leaf Extract, Fucus vesiculosus (Bladderwrack) Thalle Extract, Hedera helix (Ivy) Leaf Extract, Equisetum arvense (Horsetail) Leaf/Stem Extract, Ruscus aculeatus (Butchers Broom) Root Extract, Paullinia cupana (Guarana) Seed Extract, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Decyl Oleate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG 7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Tocopheryl Acetate, TEA-Hydroiodide, Methylsilanol Mannuronate, Menthol, Camphor, Panthenol, Phenoxyethanol, Retinyl Palmitate, Triethanolamine, Carbomer, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus) Leaf Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid, BHT. Limonen, Linalool.

Q: How does the "Fat Fighter" supplement work?
A: You take the Fat Fighter after your largest meal of the day and it blocks 30%-60% of the fat & carbs in your meal! The Fat Fighter’s active ingredient, NeOpuntia, is derived from the prickly pear cactus, and it is the most powerful, gluten-free, kosher, and vegetarian fat-binding ingredient on the market today. Its natural fibers have lipopholic properties, binding to the fat from the foods in your stomach. As a result, some of the fat from the foods is not absorbed by your body, but rather excreted from your system naturally. Fat Fighter also contains phaseolamin, a white kidney bean extract that acts as a carb inhibitor. The white kidney bean extract paralyzes the enzyme in your stomach that turns the starch from carbs into sugar during the digestive process. This prevents the body from absorbing some of those carbohydrates, and they are excreted naturally.

Q: How does the "ThermoFit" supplement work?
A: ThermoFit fires up your metabolism with its naturally based, thermogenic weight loss formula! Powered by the antioxidant superfood acai berry and the metabolism-boosting properties of Capsimax (red hot pepper blend). The Ultimate ThemoFit: Promotes increased calorie burning, helps boost metabolic rate, reduces appetite, provides energy, and has all of the antioxidant benefits of acai berry!

Q: How much do these wraps cost:
A: The wraps retail at $99 (for 4 wraps). However anyone can get the Loyalty Customer "LC" price for FREE. The "catch" is you have to order something for 3 months. That can be any 1 item for 3 months ie: July: you order the "Ultimate Applicator Body Wraps (includes 4 wraps)" $59/August: you order the "Advanced Formula Fat Fighter" $23/ September: you order the "Its Vital Minerals" (multi vitamin) $23 and then you never have to order again (although I am sure you will!!! Or you can pay a one time $50 lifetime membership fee and then you can purchase any products at the wholesale "LC" price whenever you want.

Q: What is your favorite product
A: Duh the body wraps, Fat Fighter & ThermoFit lol But I also love the "Greens on the Go" (Berry Flavor) With the "Greens on the Go" you alkalize, energize, and detoxify wherever you go with increased energy! They improved immune system health, a clean-running digestive system, and a detoxified, pH-balanced body. Greens’ pH-balancing blend includes an acidity-fighting combination of magnesium and potassium for an alkaline body that’s healthier and more energized. A cutting-edge probiotic helps you maintain that healthy balance by keeping your digestive system regular and toxins flowing out. With the nutrition of 8+ servings of fruits and vegetables and a blend of 38 herbs and nutrient-rich superfoods, Greens provides naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and enzymes to give your already well-balanced diet a nutritional boost. Just mix, shake, and take your Greens on the Go! That is pretty impressive huh!?!?

Girls trip to NYC!

June has been a wonderful month...

We celebrated birthdays (PaPa, Uncle Joey, YaYa & MiMi), our 8 year anniversary, Fathers Day and in the midst of it all I got to take a fun girls getaway to NYC! I have actually never been on a "girls trip" since having kids! John and I have taken a couple trips since having the girls, but I have never gone anywhere with my girlfriends. One of my sweet friends/adopted sisters/clients/adopted Auntie to my girls/ Kate decided to celebrate her Birthday in NYC. She invited me & another one of our friends to go with her to the big apple for some girls time.

This trip was an absolute BLAST. Kate is a good big or go home type of gal so of course she booked a big, fabulous suite, on the very top floor at the one and only Plaza hotel. I have wanted to stay at this hotel my entire life (well every since I watched Home Alone 2) lol And let me just say the fabulous Plaza Hotel did not disappoint. I don't think I had ever seen so many chandeliers in one suite!

Kate had already been in NYC for a week when I arrived but she so kindly saved all of the fun girly things to do for when I got there! I arrived at the hotel and was welcomed with an assortment of delicious macarons. After I stuffed my face we walked literally across the street to Central Park and we hopped on a horse and carriage for a 90 minute ride through the beautiful park. I would have to say exploring Central Park is one of my absolute favorite things to do in the city!

After our tour through the park we got all dolled up for dinner and dined at a yummy french restaurant called Le Cirque. For many years this landmark NYC restaurant was located at the Palace Hotel but in 2000 in moved to the Bloomberg building on East 58th St. We decided to completely embrace french cuisine and we did not hold back in sampling any of the delicacies. We tried some yummy cavier as well as some not so yummy foie gras. It was a fun experience and we left stuffed! We then decided to over indulge  with some dessert and we had our driver drop us off at Serendipity so we could enjoy some famous frozen hot chocolate and a few other treats.

The next day we went on a Gossip Girl tour! Although I have never even watched 1 episode of Gossip Girl I had a blast on the tour because it took us to some of the best/most famous spots in NYC. We started at the Palace hotel, hit up Dylans Candy Shop, Henri Bendels, The MET Museum, Guggenheim, Empire hotel, Central Park, Laduree, Grand Central Station and of course Blair's apartment, Nate's house, Constance & St Judes (You have to be a GG fan to understand the last 4 haha).

After the GG tour we got dressed up and had afternoon tea at the Plaza. It was so delicious and so much fun. That evening we went and saw the Broadway Wicked. Although I have seen that musical a few times I still enjoyed it as if it was my 1st time seeing it. Wicked is without a doubt my favorite Broadway Musical. It was also fun seeing Justin Guarini (from American Idol) play the part of Fiyero. After the show we did a little late night shopping on Times Square. New York City truly is the city that never sleeps. We shopped until almost 12am and the stores were still open!!!

Day #3 We started the day off with a subway ride to grab breakfast at Dean & Deluca. We then took the Subway to Canal Street for some shopping! We drove down to TriBeCa to have lunch at a cute little spot called Pecan and then we made a pit stop at Lauduree for more macrons (they have seriously the BEST macarons in NYC). And the birthday girl couldn't come to NYC and leave without a fabulous new handbag so we made a little Prada stop for a to die for red Prada bag!

That evening we took a tour of the Top of the Rock (Rockefeller Center) and witnessed the most spectacular view of the city. There is something about all the bright lights, cars, tall building, high energy and fast pace that I just love. I think I may be a city girl at heat ;)

We couldn't get enough of Central Park so we decided to have dinner  our very last night at one of the cutest landmark spots Leob Boathouse right in the middle of the park. We ate right by the window that over looked the lake and it truly was so picturesque. The environment was unbeatable although the food was not overly impressive. However I would definitely go there again just for that view!

We ended the night with some more macarons and a cheese and fruit platter up in our room. We then stayed up late watching chick flicks & chatting. What better way then to end a girls trip?!?! This was such an over the top trip & we made some wonderful memories that I will never ever forget! I can not wait until the next time the big city & I reunite

Until Next time...."Give my regards to Broadway, Remember me to Herald Square. Tell all the gang at Forty-Second Street That I will soon be there. Whisper of how I'm yearning. To mingle with the old time throng Give my regards to old Broadway And say that I'll be there e'er long"

8 Years & Counting

Last week John and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary!

6/17/06

It is only appropriate that we take a little walk down memory lane with some photos of our beautiful wedding on June 17th 2006 in gorgeous South Lake Tahoe. That day really was a PERFECT day. It was an intimate wedding at Edgewood golf club and we were surrounded by our family and dearest friends. Although I did not know it at the time, this day was the last time my whole family would ever be together.

My favorite picture of all time

Fast forward quite a bit and we have now been married for 8 years  & together for 11 years. It is pretty crazy to think that we met when I was 18 years old and started dating when I was 19 years old. It really does seem a lifetime ago when we began this journey of love.

John and I both 19 years old

I knew John was "the one" the moment I saw him.  I did a 2 year Bible school before I went to college and I kept a journal those 2 years. Before I even met John I wrote in my prayer journal that I wanted God to send me a husband that was a combination of "Joey" (who is John's older brother & was the discipleship director in my Bible school!) and "JR" (another leader who was in the Bible school). I just admired Joey's heart and passion for God! He adored his wife Stacey and I wanted a marriage exactly like theirs! The funny thing was that Joey was a lot like me; a total sanguine, who loves to talk, never meets a stranger and doesn't lack confidence lol. We actually have a joke that if Joey & I were married we would be piled high in debt but we would be living and loving life, traveling the world and buying anything and everything we want! If John & Stacey were married they would be filthy rich, with all their money invested and saved in the bank and they would live the most boring lives ever haha. It is all about balance! Well, JR  was another leader who was also very passionate about the Lord. He and his wife Aly were the picture perfect, beautiful, couple! Aly was the outgoing one and JR was the more calm and collected one. I looked up to their marriage as well. So in my mind the combo of Joey & JR would we perfect for me haha.  If you know those 2 guys then you know that John is actually a TOTAL mix of them. He reminds me so much of his brother but he is the rational one that balances our marriage and keeps me from over spending. All of that to say I truly believe that God had John in mind when HE created me. I do believe what the word of God says in (Psalm 139:16) "You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed." If God laid out every moment of my life before I was born then you better believe he hand picked my spouse! I can not even begin to express how grateful & thankful I am that God gave me a husband like John. I honestly do not deserve him but I am so thankful the Lord brought us together.

Although I would love to say the past 8 years have been picture perfect, we have had our share of up's & down's. I would actually say our 1st year of marriage and our 7th year of marriage were the absolute hardest years for us. Our 1st year of marriage I lost my dad unexpectedly 1 month after our wedding, John lost his best friend in an awful car accident, 2 of our dearest friends lost their baby girl (our god-daughter) and then John lost his grandfather. This all happened in a 3 month period. I for one spent that entire year of marriage walking through all the stages of grief and everything that comes with that. Now this past year our 7th year of marriage was pretty challenging as well. Thank the Lord we did not have to walk through grief but it was one pretty tough year. I spent the year trying to get the hang of raising 2 babies (a newborn and a 1 year old). Double the crying, double the diapers, double the feedings and double the tears for this Mama! I had to take a step back from work, ministry and even life. John and I had to really, really, work to spend time together. Sometimes the only alone time we had was for an hour or two from 10pm-12am (if that!) It really was a crazy, yet still beautiful year I will never forget! Look how much they changed this past year...

I guess it is safe to say we made it past the 7 year itch! Year 7 was a tough one for us but we made it through and so far year 8 has started off wonderful! I now only have 1 baby in diapers and I am not pregnant or breastfeeding (and that is a first in over 3 years). Our girls are getting a teeny-tiny bit more independent although one of them does want to always be held haha. And we are building our next home! This year will still be a challenge with a 1 and 2 year old but I'm feeling a little more prepared for the task at hand.

John and I celebrated pretty low key for our 8 year anniversary. We decided not to exchange gifts since we are building a new home. And we didn't take a trip because we just got back from a cruise for my 30th birthday. John did surprise me with beautiful flowers (many of which were in my wedding bouquet). My heart melts for peonies, hydrangeas, roses & snapdragons.

We also went to dinner at "Sissy's" a fun southern style restaurant in Dallas. We had homemade cookies for dessert! What a wonderful end to our 7th year of marriage and I am ready for what is next. I really am excited to see what God has in store for us this year and I am believing that our best years are yet to come!

So cheers to 8 beautiful years of marriage and making it past the 7 year itch!
