Planning an Abby Cadabby Birthday Party

It is party planning time!

If you follow my blogs or are my friend on Facebook or Instagram then you know that I am quite the party planner. I am always planning or helping plan some kind of party whether it is a birthday party, baby shower, bridal party or whatever other party there is to be planned lol

Well...I was trying to figure out what kind of party I should throw for Josselyn's 2nd Birthday. Her 1st birthday was a huge, over the top, Under the Sea Mermaid Party! Here is the blog I wrote about it: An Under the Sea Mermaid Party! Her 1st birthday turned out wonderful and although I love going all out, I decided to scale back quite a bit with this party. My husband would kill me if I went that crazy for every birthday especially since we have 2 girls now!!! I chose the "mermaid" theme last year since Josselyn was only 1 and she had no clue what was really going on. This year I decided to go with something Josselyn actually loves. Josse loves balls (but I refuse to have a ball party for a girl), she loves Yo Gabba Gabba (I can not stand that show), she loves animals (I contemplated a party at the ranch or having a petting zoo but August is just way too hot) & she loves Sesame Street (hmmm something I can actually work with). Josse adores Elmo & Abby Cadabby so I decided to go with an Abby Cadabby Fairy Pool Party! I am not huge on "cartoon" themed parties but I figured Abby is pretty darn cute for a cartoon and I can incorporate butterflies, flowers, pink, purple, etc with the Abby party theme.

So there you have it I decided to have an Abby Cadabby Fairy Party for Josselyn's 2nd Birthday! I then did what every mom now does when planning a party....I started a "secret" Pinterest board to get some good ideas! Here are the few of the ideas I found that helped me plan Josse's Abby Cadabby party.

The first thing I did was search Pinterest & Google for some cute Abby Caddy Parties! I come to the conclusion that the colors will be pink, purple & aqua. I also have decided that I want to use Abby Cadabby paper goods (plates, napkins, etc) from Party City but I do not want to go Abby Cadabby crazy with it all. I also want to incorporate fresh flower with the decor so there will be a little touch of elegance with all the Abby cartoon faces haha! Here are a few of my inspiration pics...

I definitely want to find Abby plates, napkins, etc

I want to incorporate butterflies & flowers

I want to decorate with pink, purple & aqua

Invitations

Invitations set the tone for any party! I searched Pinterest & Etsy for cute Abby invites and below are the ones I liked the most.

Decorations

I found so many fun ways to decorate for an "Abby Party" but the key is to keep this party low key, budget friendly and not go overboard. The one thing I saw that I have to have is Abby Cadabby fabric! I just loved how this one Abby party on Pinterest used Abby fabric as a table topper for the food table.  Luckily, I did find this awesome fabric at Hobby Lobby!!!

I also need to figure out center pieces for 3 or 4 tables. I love these DIY Abby centerpieces I came across (left). They only cost $5 to make. But, I also have the option of doing something with mason jars and Abby cut outs with our Cricut (right). Unfortunately, the Sesame Street Cricut cartridge is not cheap...

I definitely want to have a couple bouquets of balloons at the party incorporating the colors (pink, purple & aqua) and then I want to have a huge Abby Cadabby mylar balloon in the bouquet!

I am a total sucker for tissue paper balls and paper lanterns. I know I always use paper lanterns/tissue paper balls at the parties I throw, but I just think they add so much to a party. Plus, I already have pink & turquoise paper lanterns so how can I not use them?!?!

Banners, banners, banners... I love hand made party banners! These suckers take so much time but they are just so dang cute! I have to make one or two Abby birthday banners for the party. My mom invested in a Cricut machine last year, so we have been on a roll making banners for every party we help plan! Here are a couple Abby banners I just love!

Lastly, a cute party wreath always add's a cute touch when the guests come & go. I have no clue what kind of wreath I am going to make but I do love this Abby Caddy inspired wreath I found on Pinterest!

Food

It is not easy coming up with food ideas for an Abby Caddaby pool party. I want to keep it simple since this is food for a 2 year old party but I do want to be creative. One of my very favorite things I have come across are sesame street character fruit/veggie platters!

I also came across the most adorable, girly, festive, trail mix recipe on Pinterest! This definitely looks like a fairy treat :)

I am a total sweets girl & unfortunately so is Josselyn! We both love cake pops, marshmallow treats, and chocolate covered anything haha. So here are a few of the cute dessert ideas I found!

I totally love colorful punch so I know that I want to have some type of pink and maybe aqua colored punch for the guests to drink! Look how pretty this pink punch is!

You can not have a birthday party without a cake (at least that is what my mother says!) I actually was NOT going to have a cake this year but instead have cupcakes. Cupcakes just seem so much easier for 2 year old party. However, YaYa (my mom) said that her granddaughter had to have an Abby cake lol So my mom is going to order a little Abby cake for Josse! I am still going to have some cupcakes and make some cute Abby cupcake toppers to go on them.

I love both of these cakes!
Love these cupcake toppers

Finally...what to wear?!?! This is a swim party so Josselyn will be in a swim suit but I still wanted to find something cute for the birthday girl to wear at the beginning of the party when everyone is eating. I fell in love with this Abby Cadabby onesie and tutu skirt! I also loved all of the hand made party hats I kept coming across but I swore to myself I would never hand make party hats again. Last year I hand made 24 party hats (it took 3 full days) and only half of them got worn at the party and then I watched people throw them away afterwords!!! It was then that I came to the conclusion that the store bought hats would have been just as sufficient and wayyyy less work!!!! I just do not know if I will be able to resist adding a few embellishments to the store bought hats lol

So there you have it! Those are a few of my ideas for Josselyn's "Abby Cadabby 2nd Birthday Pool Party" I hope it turns out cute. I must say that it is not easy trying to party plan and be crafty with an almost 2 year old and a 4 month old!!!! I am praying that it all comes together by next weekend :)

Wish me luck friends & thank you "fairy" much for reading my party planning blog post!

The Past 2 Years...

Oh my where do I even begin...

This Monday, August 26th my first born baby girl will be 2 years old. In the blink of an eye she went from this tiny, wide eyed infant...to a happy, little girl, who is always dancing & singing! At (almost) 2 years old Josselyn Grace can talk up a storm, say her ABC's, identify every letter in the alphabet, count to 15 and sing a variety of tunes. She has some killer dance moves, she loves to play "mama & baby" and she can shoot a mean free throw in her basketball hoop. Her favorite books are Good Night Moon, The Hungry Caterpillar, Where's Maisy & Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Her favorite TV shows include, Sesame Street, Yo Gabba Gabba (which I can not stand), Daniel Tigers Neighborhood & Blues Clues. Her favorite thing to eat is a lemon cake pop from Starbucks or a McDonald's ice cream cone haha She also loves eggs, avocados, watermelon, yogurt & apple juice. She enjoys going to her My Gym class, swimming, playing at the mall play ground, going on carousel rides and going for walks in our neighborhood (looking for hop hop's). Josselyn has started to go pee pee & poo poo in her princess potty chair so in the next couple weeks we are going to really work on potty training her. Right now Josselyn's best friend is Giovanni Alcala; she absolutely loves him! She also adores her two big cousin's Isabella & Alexandrea. Our big girl has grown to LOVE her baby sister Julianna aka "JuJu" and Josse always makes sure that JuJu has a blanket on her and a pacifier in her mouth (even if Jewel does not want the paci or a blanket!) haha Josselyn light's up our life and we can not even begin to imagine life without her.

To be honest I have been an emotional wreck this past week. There is something that is just gut wrenching about my baby girl turning two. I guess I really feel like she is now no longer a baby but instead a full on toddler. Before long she will be out of diapers and no longer in her crib. You would think that I would be happy about those changes but thinking about them actually makes me sad. When I look at Josse I still see that dark haired baby girl that completely changed my life for the better on August 26th 2011. She made me a "Mommy" and next to salvation, that has been the greatest gift of my life. In the past two years Josselyn has taught my how to love more, be more patient, kind & selfless. She has made me stronger, wiser & more protective. She has given my life a new meaning & purpose and I thank God every day for choosing me to be her mother.

The moment I became a mother

Josselyn lights up any room that she walks into & she is a complete representation of the joy of the Lord. She is a natural born leader who loves people. I have no doubt in my mind that she is going to be history maker & world changer for Jesus! My prayer is that her mission in life would always be to know God & make Him known. I can not wait to see the incredible things Josselyn does for the kingdom of God.

I love you so much Josselyn Grace Alcala. I wish I could just freeze time but I can't. Instead I will make it my goal to cherish every day I have with you and enjoy the journey. I look forward to making a life time of memories with you baby girl!

Happy 2nd Birthday to my 1st born princess
