Project Nursery

Project Nursery has officially begun...

I feel like I am a little late starting baby Julianna's nursery but I just needed to get through the 5 months of morning sickness, a gender reveal party and then through the holidays! Anyways, I am now working hard trying to figure out exactly how to decorate my 2nd princesses room.

So far my biggest problem has been that I love BABY PINK (surprise surprise) but I already did Josselyn's nursery in baby pink & cream. Here is an old blog with pictures of Josselyn's nursery The Finished Nursery! As much as I adore Josse's nursery I do NOT  want my 2 girls to have similar rooms but for some reason I seemed to like the same things! I had friends suggest that I do Julianna's room in purple or hot pink but unfortunately I do not love purple and I am a sucker for soft, sweet, girly colors (while they are babies) and like I said I love pink! I spent forever pinning on my secret Pinterest board baby bedding and nursery ideas. Every time I would show John his reply would be "That looks like Josselyn's nursery" Ugh....and he was right! I needed to find the perfect bedding for Jewel's room that was nothing like Josse's bedding. And so the hunt began....

Finally after weeks and weeks of looking at bedding and fabric swatches I some how stumbled upon the most adorable baby girl bedding online at Dimples & Dandelions. This bedding was surprisingly not completely pink and it even had other colors in it! It looked nothing like Josselyn's bedding yet I absolutely loved it! The negative was that this bedding is a custom/made-to-order bedding, so there is not way of seeing it in person because it is not made until you order it. I had the option to even change it around a little (I could have added more pink) but I just loved it exactly how it was so I ordered it! This bedding has a shabby chic feel which is definitely the direction I am headed with baby Julianna Faith's nursery. I actually originally wanted to do Josselyn's nursery with a shabby chic touch but some how her's ended up being completely glam/princess style. This time around I am going to try hard not to veer from my shabby chic idea even though I am also drawn to oversize rhinestone chandeliers lol.
Here is the bedding I ordered! It came with the bed skirt, bumper & crib blanket.

Baby Julianna's crib bedidng

Below is the other side of the crib blanket one side is solid pink & the other side is the paprika & pink paisley print. Also below is the inside of the bumper (which I love) I actually may flip the bumper so the adorable patchwork shows!

I also ordered these drape panels (thanks to my wonderful mother in law). They are made from some of the same material that is used in the bedding and I just love them! I also really really really want to order the middle paisley shade but John has me on a budget so I may have to wait a bit...But at least I have the bedding & drape panels!

I am still trying to figure out what to do with the whole crib situation. By the time Jewel comes Josse will be 19 months old but will she be ready for a bed? I do not know if I should pass down Josselyn's gorgeous Bratt Decor Venetian crib to Julianna and then buy Josselyn a twin bed or a life time crib (which is a crib that convert into a full bed) or if I should just leave Josselyn's crib in her room and buy a crib for Julianna. The crib Josselyn currently has does convert to a toddler bed but not to a twin or full, so it would probably only work until she is 4 or 5 years old. Ugh... I have no clue what to do. Either way I will be purchasing a crib or bed in the near future!!! I am a sucker for wrought iron cribs and I think both of these are super cute if I end up getting Jewel a new crib.

One thing I have decided for sure is that this time I want to put a cornice, canopy, crown,  or something along those lines above the baby's crib! Josse's crib had optional high posts and canopy rods and I wanted to use them, so I felt like it was too much to put anything above her crib. This time around I am going to change it up and put something above the crib (If we pass down Josse's crib I just won't use the canopy rods). Now I have to decide what to put above Jewel's crib! Here are 4 of my favorite options. Please feel free to comment and let me know which one you like better!!!!

I am not completely sure what furniture to put in Jewel's room. One option would be just adding on 2 pieces that match Josselyn's furniture (maybe a long dresser/chest and a tall dresser) that way if we ever go to sell it we will have 4 pieces of matching furniture (that is my mathematician husband's idea haha) or there are 2 furniture lines I have fallen head over heels for. I am not sure exactly which pieces I would order from each line but I am just going to give you an idea of 3 pieces I like from each of the lines. Please let me know what style you like better!

This is option 1...I feel like it has a vintage shabby chic feel

This is option 2...I feel like it has a Victorian shabby chic feel

I absolutely love chandeliers! I have one in my breakfast area, one in my dining room, a beautiful one in Josselyn's room and if my husband would let me take out ceiling fan's I would have chandeliers in every other room in my house. Well the problem I am having is picking a chandelier that is not too similar to Josselyn's and still gives off the whole shabby chic vibe. I was sorta thinking that a wrought iron one would be best but I still am not 100% sure. Here are a few chandeliers that I have found online and think are pretty. Please let me know which one is your favorite!

I have also decided that instead of looking for a feminine floral or paisley rug I am going to go with an off-white sheep skin fur rug. I think it will add a different touch to the nursery and if you know me then you know I love fur! Unfortunately I have not really found a good size fur or faux fur rug for a good price. All of the ones in my price range are tiny and I am thinking that I will need a 5X7 size for the center of the room. If you know any good spots for sheep skin rugs feel free to share the info!

Now this is about as far as I have gotten with project nursery. I still have so much to do! I have to decide on furniture, pick paint color & possibly wallpaper, figure out what pictures/frames/mirrors to hang, etc! All I really have so far is crib bedding, drapes and then some scattered ideas. I am hoping in the next few weeks I will be making lots of decision's and hopefully making lots of purchases lol. So I will be sure to keep you all posted on project nursery as it continues! I am open to any feedback, ideas, or suggestions you may have so please feel free to share them with  me :)

Here are a couple pictures of Josselyn's room. My goal is to make these two nurseries look completely different!

No Pregnancy is the Same...

I am 6 months pregnant (24 weeks)

And this pregnancy really is flying by (a lot faster than my 1st pregnancy). This blog entry may be boring to many of sorry in advance! But I was just thinking last night about how different this pregnancy (especially this 2nd trimester) has been compared to my 1st pregnancy. I know that no pregnancy is the same but I think I am really noticing the differences in my pregnancies because they are so close together. Anyways, I wanted to make sure to document/blog about some of those differences so I do not forget about them later on. But let me WARN you: If you are one of those women who does not like to hear "complaining" about pregnancy and you think pregnancy is pure bliss or women should just be grateful that they are pregnant and ignore all the un-fun symptoms that come along with pregnancy...then please spare your self the time and click out of this blog now. You should have learned by now that although I absolutely love my babies more than anything in the world and am so thankful/grateful that the Lord blessed me with them,  I still despise almost everything about the pregnancy process. So here ya go...

1st Trimester

I had the dreaded morning sickness with both Josselyn & Julianna until about 20 weeks! Thank the Lord for Zofran even though it didn't get rid of the nausea it did keep me from puking 24/7. However, this pregnancy I lost about 5lbs my 1st trimester and I had NO appetite for weeks. Lack of appetite & weight loss was so foreign to me because with Josselyn I gained 5lbs my 1st trimester & was always able to eat!  Even with that said, John still swears the morning sickness was way worse with Josse (maybe I just got a little tougher the 2nd time around haha)

>Weight Gain
With Josselyn I steadily gained weight through my entire pregnancy (28lbs in all). This time around I hadn't gained a single pound at 20 weeks. Unfortunately the last few weeks I have made up for lost time and gained close to 10 pounds. I guess the weight gain has begun in full force for me. I am sure I will make up for the lack of weight gain those first few months. (I now really need to lay off the ice cream sandwiches)

I did crave some of the same foods with both pregnancies (smoothies, bagels, cereal) but I did not really crave sweets in my 1st trimester this time around like I did with Josselyn. This pregnancy, my sweet cravings did not begin until around 20 weeks (I guess they began when my nausea ended). Unfortunately now I love my sweets again...

Well...I won't go into great detail about this wonderful 1st trimester pregnancy symptom but I am still not sure if it is just a side effect of Zofran or if it has something to do with pregnancy itself. Either way it is awful!

>Bleeding Gums
This gross pregnancy side effect is something I experienced horribly in my 1st & 2nd trimester with Josselyn. Even though I am an avid flosser who never goes a day without flossing my gums still bled when I would floss!!!! This time, I had a tiny bit of bleeding in my 1st trimester but then it magically went away. Unfortunately this past week the bleeding gums have returned. I am just going to stay faithful with my daily flossing and hope it ends soon.

2nd Trimester

> Leg Cramps
With Josselyn I experienced the absolute worst "charley horse" leg cramps throughout my 2nd and 3rd trimester. They were soooo painful and there was nothing I could do to get rid of them. This time I have not had 1 charley horse yet!!!!! (fingers crossed) I am praying I wont get them this time around.

>Carpel Tunnel
1st time around I never had any carpel tunnel in my fingers or really any swelling. Sure I was a tiny bit swollen by 39 weeks but nothing unusual. This pregnancy I have been having the weirdest numbing in my fingers and wrists. Usually the numbing/tingling feeling comes when I am typing or texting but it is awful! My rings have also gotten a little snug and that sorta worry's me! Please Lord do not let me swell up this pregnancy...

>Back Aches
Unfortunately I had lower back pain when I was prego with Josse and now again with Jewel! So far I feel like the back aches were worse with Josselyn but I don't exactly remember when the unbearable back aches started the 1st time around. I am praying the aches will be much less severe this time.

>Sleepless Nights
Well this symptom really belongs in all 3 trimesters! I already have an issue with frequent urination so combine that with pregnancy and I am doomed! Currently I make between 2-3 bathroom trips in a typical nigh (and I wake up my husband each time). If I remember correctly it was pretty similar with Josselyn. However, one positive this time around is that I do think I am doing a little better at falling back asleep between potty trips. I think nerves, anxiety & excitement would keep me awake at night last time and although I am by no means ready & prepared to take on 2 little ones I do have an idea of what to expect in the next few months so I am not quite as anxious & nervous about what's to come...

>Lack of Energy
Last pregnancy I had all of my energy back by my 2nd trimester and I felt unstoppable! Unfortunately this time I am still sooo tired throughout the day. The tiredness may have something to do with my non-stop 1 year old that I am constantly entertaining and chasing around all day lol Who knows? But when your a mom lack of energy can't really slow you down so you just gotta keep trucking poking along!

Well...those are the BIGGEST PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS I am personally experiencing/ed. I am so excited that this time around I am not waking up with crazy charley horses at 2:00am but I am not a fan of the crazy carpel tunnel I am experiencing!!! Once again I am reminded that pregnancy is full of both those up's & down's but honestly it is going by so fast and most of the time my focus is on being a mommy to Josselyn so all in all things seem to be not so bad this time around! Wohoo :) I will be sure to keep you posted on the last couple weeks of this trimester and of course my 3rd and final trimester!!!

The Name Reveal!

Drum Roll Please...

Baby #2 does have a name, even though it took us quite some time to decide on it! Her official name will be...

Julianna Faith Alcala

John and I have this love for "J" names and we decided a while ago that we will most likely name all of our kids with "J" names. I had always known that I wanted to name my 1st daughter Josselyn but I had not put a lot of thought into a 2nd girl name. Well, as soon as we found out baby #2 was a girl we quickly started to brain storm some of our favorite names. We both instantly agreed on the beautiful first name Julianna but we had a tough time coming up with a middle name (the same thing happened with Josselyn). Eventually, we narrowed the middle names down to Faith, Rose or Kate and then we narrowed them down to Faith or Rose. Now the final decision was not easy. We went back and forth for weeks trying to decide! We even sent out a group text message to some of our family members & close friends and there were 12 votes for Faith and 12 votes for Rose...thanks for nothing guys! Anyways, although we both love the way Julianna Rose sounds, we can't help but think that Julianna Faith goes just too perfect with Josselyn Grace.

In the end we decided to go with Faith and the more I say that sweet name the more I love it! I also love the meaning of the name Faith (confidence/belief/loyalty/to trust). What wonderful attributes for a name to mean. I also love the fact that the name Faith is of Greek origin and I am Greek! And although we chose the name Julianna because it is a "J" name that name is of Spanish origin which is perfect becasue John is Spanish. I also find the meaning of the name Julianna adorable. Julianna means (youthful/young).

Now that the decision is finally made I am very confident that Julianna Faith will be the perfect name for our 2nd little princess. Now if you know me, then you know that I am all about nicknames. I give anybody and everybody a nickname, even my dogs! Anyways, we call Josselyn "Josse" for short and we are going to call Julianna "Jewel" for short. I am sure she will have plenty of other nicknames but Jewel is what I am going to call her. Well, now I can finally start monogramming some cute baby girl stuff Yippee!!!

So there you have it our 2nd baby girl's name is Julianna Faith Alcala

Happy New Year 2013

Happy New Year!

I can not believe that it is already January 1st 2013. I always say this....but where on earth has the time gone? It seems like life is just flying by and there is no way to slow it down. All we can do is be conscious of how precious "time" is and try our best to cherish every moment we are given. Our days are numbered & we never know how much time we will have.

As I think about the past few years the first word that comes to my mind is "CHANGE"
In December of 2010 I found out I was pregnant with our very 1st baby. John and I had dated for 3 years and been married for 4 years, so it was perfect timing. We had loved the time we had spent together with just the 2 of us but we were ready, well as ready as we could be to start a family! Then in August 2011 our 1st baby girl, Josselyn Grace Alcala was born. She was completely heaven sent & a true gift from the Lord. She came at such a crazy time in our lives when total "transition" was taking place around us & in the ministry we work with. Josselyn brought me joy & sanity in the midst of a really tough and what could have been sad time in my life. The Lord knew Josse was just what we needed & I am so thankful for that. This past year in August 2012 I found out I was pregnant once again! I feel like I was just pregnant with Josselyn and here we go again for round 2! It was not exactly "planned" but we are over joyed with the idea of our famiy expanding. In this upcoming year 2013 we will be welcoming another baby girl into our lives. As you can see there is a pattern that is forming...I am either getting pregnant or having a baby every year!!! but I promise you this pattern will not continue after 2013 (Lord willing) haha Anyways "CHANGE" is definitely what we have experienced the past few years especially last year in 2012.

Josselyn was just 4 months old when we rang in the New Year last year and boy do baby's change a lot in that first precious year. This past year Josselyn has learned to sit-up, crawl, walk, run, climb, dance, eat food, finally drink from a cup, say her first word (and now talk up a storm), cut her 1st tooth (now she has 9), say a prayer, read a book, feed her baby doll & even have a little temper fit lol. After Experiencing all the changes in the first 12 months of Josselyn's life & I am totally convinced that out of all the year's in our lives the very 1st year is when we experience the most changes! Some how my little girl went from a helpless tiny infant to this independent little ball of energy that never stops. It is unbelievable!!! Last year was full of so many sweet, wonderful joyful up's as well as a few hard, difficult down's. All in all it was a beautiful year that I will never forget! Here are a few highlights from 2012.

Josselyn met her great-grandfather at his 90th Birthday party in Phoenix, Arizona

Josselyn played in the Texas bluebonnets & had her 1st Easter (April 2012)

Josselyn was dedicated by her Uncle Joey & Pastor Lloyd Zeigler in May 2012

Josselyn's 1st time swimming! June 2012

Josselyn had a blast on her very 1st 4th of July

Josselyn's 1st Under the Sea Birthday Party in August 2012 was so much fun!

We found out that we are expecting baby #2. Josselyn is going to be a great big sister!

Josselyn loved everything about Fall 2012: pumpkins, hay rides, Halloween candy, etc

We had so much fun spending Thanksgiving in New York City! Josse loved the big city

We had a "Gender Reveal Party" in December & found out baby #2 will be a GIRL!

This Christmas was so magical for Josselyn. She just loved the lights, trees, presents, etc

My goal (Resolution) for 2013 is to live my life with a PURPOSE & to live each day like it is my last. There is a huge difference between "drifting" through life and truly "living" life. My heart's desire is to LIVE out the life the Lord has blessed me with. My goal is to love GOD, love my FAMILY and to KNOW God & make Him KNOWN. I am believing that the Lord will give John & I new vision, new dreams & a new healthy baby girl this next year! I am also believing that addictions will be broken in my family & my loved ones will come to know Him. I am already praising God in advanced for the miracles that are going to take place in 2013.

It is time to say good bye to the past & embrace the future from this day forward!

(Philippians 3:13)
Brothers, I do not consider myself to have embraced it yet. But this one thing I do: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.

P.S. I am all about New Years Resolutions (you can never have too many haha) and as I was looking back at my last years "New Years Blog" These last 7 lbs...  I decided that the New Years resolutions I set for last year were perfect for this year as well (except the one about losing 7lbs). So basically I am keeping 4 out of 5 of my previous resolutions as well! I am going to spend more time in the word, pray more, live in the present & spend less time on social media. In my opinion those are 4 things I can continually work on for the rest of my life!
