8 Months Old

Today my little princess is 8 months old

I do not know why I get sooo sad when I think about her growing up... Maybe it is a mommy thing or maybe I am just a nut (I'm not sure)

Anyway, as I sit on my couch while my little angel is asleep upstairs I can't help but reminisce over the past 8 months. It really does seem like just yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital. She rocked our world more than we could have ever imagined but I can honestly say that I have loved every minute of it (well almost every minute of it) haha But, I wouldn't trade one second of the time we have had with our first born baby girl.

It is amazing how much has changed in just the last few months. Josselyn now eats a wide variety of baby food and she loves puffs! She can even eat some table food (bananas, bread, & thanks to her naughty Aunties things like whip cream, cookies & who knows what else!) She loves being Miss Independent and feeding herself with her spoon and she is quite proud of herself now that she can pick up her puffs and put them in her own mouth. She has learned how to drink from a sippy-cup and yes even a BOTTLE (Hallelujah!!!) Josse can sit up by herself, clap her hands and even wave bye bye. However my very favorite thing she has learned how to do is give mommy big, wet, sloppy, open mouth kisses! Her baby kisses absolutely melt my heart. Josselyn has also learned how to be quite mobile... she can roll all over the place, follow after you in a baby walker and recently she has leaned how to scoot towards whatever object she has fixed her eyes on! She is a little chatter box and she can say words like "MaMa" "DaDa" "YaYa" "baba" and she even try's to say "hi" "bye bye" and "thank you".  And like I blogged about last week my big girl has finally cut her first tooth (you can definitely see it now when she smiles)

Her personality has certainly began to develop as well. She can be soooo silly at times (especially when she is tired), or she can be the happiest, smiley-est baby you have ever seen! Sometimes she gets in these serious mood (and absolutely NO ONE can make her smile) and at other times she can be a bit strong willed (mainly when I am trying to change her diaper). I love watching her personality develop & I know she is going to become an incredible WORLD CHANGER!

I am certainly learning to cherish every moment I have with my baby, because as cliche as it is... they do grow up so fast!

Very 1st Pearly White

Drum roll please....

I would like to announce that at 7 months & 3 weeks old Josselyn Grace Alcala has got her very 1st TOOTH!

Well, I guess I should rephrase that statement...Josselyn has had her 1st tooth "break through"   Right now you can just see the top part of a little white toothy ;) The whole thing basically happened over night. A few of my friends who have little ones and both of Josselyn's grandmas kept saying, "she is going to get a tooth any day!" I guess experienced mom's know what puffy gums look like (I had no idea what they were talking about at first) Then, all of a sudden last Sunday I noticed that there was a swollen area on Josse's lower gum. I could actually see a tooth right under her gum. By Monday morning her bottom (left) tooth had pushed through!

I was actually surprised how well-behaved Josse was while cutting her first tooth. We did not experience any fevers, runny noses or diarrhea (just her normal every other day poop explosions). Josselyn is the type of baby that goes nuts when she is hungry and she has total melt downs when she gets tired. I can't say that I blame her, who wants to be hungry or tired?  Anyways, as long as Josse has a full stomach and gets her 10 billion naps a day (actually 4 naps a day) she is great. Well, I did assume that my daughter would be one of those babies that cries non stop during the day and even through the night while they are cutting a tooth. I was presently surprised that this was not the case at all (fingers crossed that this will not change as the other teeth come in!)

Now, I am not saying Josselyn was perfect by any means. I am currently having to see a dumb chiropractor 3 times a week because last week Josselyn decided to start screaming bloody murder while John and I were on an evening walk. Let me explain...I am one of those crazy women who like to power walk (well pre-pregnancy I liked to power walk) I actually hadn't power walked since the evening I went into labor lol But last week I decided that I needed to start getting active again. Well, after already power walking once with my friend Krista in the morning I decided to talk John into going on a power walk (John hates power walking so I have to trick him by calling it a "walk") with me and Josselyn that evening. It seemed like a great idea at the time...but boy was I wrong! My first mistake was that we started our power walk a little too late in the evening. You see, currently Josse likes to go to bed around 8:30pm every night (her early bed time does not fit with our life style!!!) Anyways, John and I were on the last leg of our walk when all of a sudden Josselyn started to fuss (it was 8:25pm). Quickly her fussing turned into screaming and we still had a couple blocks to go until we reached our house! My second mistake was that I thought it would be a good idea to hold my 18 pound baby while power walking back to the house (let me re-remind you that I am totally out of shape and I have not exercised since the week I went into labor almost 8 months ago!) I didn't want tired, teething Josselyn to scream so I figured I would hold her while John pushed the empty stroller (that was such a dumb idea!) To make a long story short, that night at 2:00am I woke up in excruciating pain. By the next morning I was stiff as a board and so sore I could barely move. I guess this is all a result of teething Josselyn having a complete meltdown during our evening  power walk.

So, as you can tell, Josselyn has not been a total angel while cutting her 1st tooth but she has definitely been wayyyy better behaved than I expected! I do not imagine that it is very pleasant having a razor sharp tooth push through your gum, so I will definitely cut Josse some slack!

These pictures were 2 days before Josselyn cut her 1st tooth...she is still so happy!

Now Josselyn's 1st tooth has definitely brought about some mixed emotions. I will admit I got a bit teary-eyed when I realized that soon Josse wont have her sweet toothless gummy smile. I adore her precious, little, gummy smile and I will definitely miss it once she has a mouth full of teeth. Basically, my baby girl is growing up and for some reason it does make me a little sad. Life is constantly going forward and you can never turn back time, so this is a reminder once again for me to enjoy every moment I have with my baby girl because she will not always be a baby.

Now, onto another mixed emotion I have about Josselyn getting teeth...
I know I have to keep my Blog PG rated & my husband always proof reads it so I will be vague. The thought of Josselyn getting teeth definitely brings about some anxiety when I think of poor "Lavern" & "Shirley" If you are not one of my faithful Blog readers then you will have to look back at some of my pregnancy posts to find out who "Lavern" & "Shirley" are. Anyway, I am a little concerned on their well being when I think about a nursing baby having teeth!!!

I love this gummy smile

Well, that about sums up our latest adventure in the Alcala household! Stay tuned for more updates about our little teething princess.

Josselyn's 1st Easter

Today was Josselyn's 1st Easter!

Once again having a little one makes the holidays a little bit more fun :) I haven't visited the Easter Bunny since I was probably 10 years old but this year Josse and her BFF Eliana got to sit on the Easter Bunny's lap and get their pictures taken! Josse & Elley are brave little souls, the Easter Bunny didn't scare them one bit! Well, actually they did not even notice that they were sitting on some crazy person's lap who was wearing a huge, some what scary, gigantic, bunny costume lol Our girls were completely oblivious to the entire experience. I am sure next year will be a whole different story but getting Easter bunny pictures this year was a breeze!

Easter time means more than just bunny's here in Texas! Easter means that the Texas bluebonnets are in full bloom. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing field after field of those pretty blueish/lavender colored bluebonnets. I just had to get my little bluebonnet (Josse's) picture in one of those fields! Josselyn wasn't to sure about the bluebonnet field at first, but as soon as she realized she could pick those purple flowers and rip them to shreds she had the time of her life! (Shhhh don't mention Josse illegally picking the Texas state flower to our local law enforcement). I actually hope to make one more trip to the bluebonnet field with John so we can get a full family picture.

Now, if you know me then you know that I had to take Josselyn to get Easter pictures, especially since this was her first Easter. You would think that by now I would have learned from our previous experiences not to put Josselyn in her picture outfit until we are ready to actually snap the pictures. Well, for some stupid reason I got Josselyn totally dressed at our house (like I did back in February) and then I loaded her in the car to head to the picture studio. I guess I was thinking that not much could happen in just 15 minutes, but boy was I wrong. My little princess had a total explosion and pooped through her diaper and not only did it get all over her legs, back and car-seat but it also managed to get on her brand new Easter chick onesie and yellow tutu :( Luckily, we were able to somewhat clean it off and it was still wearable. Unfortunately, the poop on the Easter outfit quickly became the least of our worries. After I stayed home all day to make sure Josselyn had both a morning and afternoon nap, Josse decided to completely fall apart and start rubbing her eyes right when the photographer was ready to start taking pictures. This was the worst behaved Josselyn has ever been for pictures (and she has been pretty naughty in the past lol). My daughter decided that she was NOT going to crack a single smile and she did not budge! We could not even get a smirk out of her. When the photographer tried putting Easter eggs next to Josselyn...she decided to start hitting them. When the photographer tried laying Josselyn on her stomach...she decided to scream at the top of her lungs. Basically the whole experience was a disaster and we ended up just leaving. The good news was we tried again the next day and Josse was in a much better mood and we got quite a few adorable Easter pictures!

These are pictures of picture so they are not the best quality

You can not talk about Easter and not mention an Easter egg hunt! Don't worry Josselyn did partake in her very first Easter egg hunt today. John and Josselyn made sure to join in on the fun at our church Easter egg hunt. People always give me a hard time saying Josse will probably turn out to be a tom-boy who hates pink, but I beg to differ! Guess what 2 Easter eggs Josselyn almost face planted trying to grab...2 PINK EGGS!!! According to John she zoned in on these two pink eggs and reached directly for them. Like mother like daughter ;)

Now the best thing about this Easter was not the Easter Bunny pictures, Texas bluebonnets or even the Easter egg hunt it was simply that fact that it was our first Easter as a family of 3. There is just something so amazing about having a child of my own. There is a huge responsibility that comes with being a mom but there is an even greater excitement that comes with it. Sure, Josselyn is still a little too young to understand what "Easter" is all about but I can't wait to one day share with her the incredible resurrection story of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ! Every day I pray that my baby girl will grow up to be a world changer who lives her life for Jesus.

Well that about sums up our Easter...I guess our next holiday will be the 4th of July!

Birthday Bliss

March 31st was my 28th Birthday!

This birthday was very special. First of all, this was my first birthday with little miss Josselyn. Like I have said before, she always has a way of making every occasion a little brighter & my birthday was no exception. Just waking up to her sweet smiling face made this the BEST birthday ever. Unfortunately, Josse is dealing with a little separation anxiety :( But on the flip side, I am currently her very favorite person in the world and that in it self will melt any mama's heart :)

Josselyn is not the only person who made my birthday special. My handsome, incredible, sweet husband always makes sure to completely spoil me on my birthday. I will admit that I have been sucked into The Hunger Games trilogy frenzy.  The week before the movie premiered I decided to quickly read all 3 of the books in the series. Now, even though John has not been sucked into the trilogy he still got all of our friends together to go see a matinee showing of The Hunger Games movie! About 15 of our friends & family came along to watch the movie that I have been dying to see! We had a blast pigging out on junk food and spending the afternoon watching an awesome movie with awesome friends!

After the movie John planned a little party at our house with some of our close friends & family. What better thing is there to do on your birthday then spend time with friends and eat yummy sweets :) John ordered the most fabulous, delicious cake in the world! He picked it out all by himself & I was blown away! It was not only the best birthday cake that I have ever had but it was the most delicious too (it tasted even better than my wedding cake lol) I am a choclate queen so one layer of the cake was chocolate hazelnut & the other layer was german chocolate (my 2 favorites!) I had such a great time stuffing my face and spending time with everyone :)

I do have to highlight one of my very special birthday presents.  This was honestly the very best birthday present I have ever received! And no I am not going to blog about the awesome Tory Burch shoes John surprised me with. OK, OK, maybe the TB shoes weren't a surprise. I did sorta pick out the shoes and then conveniently text John the style, color & size I wanted...but hey, John did find the exact store that carried them and picked them up all on his own lol. But enough about the shoes, the real surprise happened today. You see, John some how remembered that years ago I had said that a hot air balloon ride was on my bucket list. Well, this year John decided to make that wish come true! John decided to completely surprise me on my 28th Birthday with a hot air balloon ride over Dallas!!! The slight bummer was that becasue of the Texas wind the balloon ride had to be postponed a week. The good news was, my birthday celebration continued through March and into the first week of April lol. So today we woke up at 5:00am, got ready, went through Starbucks and then watched the sunrise 2000 ft up in the sky :) It was one of the most spectacular experiences of my life floating through the clouds in this enormous balloon! We would float high up in the sky & then we would drop down so low I could almost reach out and grab a piece of wheat from the wheat was unbelievable! I will never ever forget this incredible experience! It was also a bonus that a photographer came along to snap pictures from the ground as we cruised through the sky!

So, thanks to my incredible husband today was the perfect end to a great birthday. I am sad that my twenties are quickly coming to an end...but I am excited to see what God has in store for me and my family in the future!

So cheers to the last 2 years in my 20's!
