Reality Sets In...

February 24, 2011

What an exciting week...I have been more nauseous then ever because I am trying to only take my nauseous medicine only once a day instead of twice! I have been ummmm how do I put it politely "severely backed up" So I have been eating Avtivia yogurt, fiber one, Metamucil, Benefiber & I purchased Mucinex but I'm still a little scared to take that! I have had headaches for the first time this pregnancy...not sure why, maybe the constipation or hormones?!?! And lastly, I have been having BAD ligament stretching on the lower right side of my stomach. Sounds pretty bad huh? Well the funny thing is despite this not so graceful start to my 2nd Trimester I have had the best week of my pregnancy! I am being absolutely serious (believe it or not).

You see on Monday I had my 13 week appointment. I was scheduled for a sonogram and some blood work. I knew this would be an exciting appointment but I had no idea how EXCITINGLY WONDERFLY AMAZING it would really be!!!! John & I entered the sonogram room like every other time, but for the first time this pregnancy I had a "normal" tummy sonogram! I unfortunately have had two of the other sonograms. I wont go into detail in case I have any male readers but let me just say the sonograms I have previously had are achieved by poking around in a southern region that is NOT my tummy! So anyways, this sonogram started off great. I didn't have to strip down from the waste down, I wasn't violated at all, and all the sonogram technician did was apply this warm gel to my stomach and then start pushing around my stomach with this metal thing. Within moments I looked at the screen and both my mouth and Johns mouth about hit the floor. We were almost frozen! I know I am pregnant and I read every day on What To that the baby is growing and is about the size of an orange and has legs, arms, ect but I never in my wildest dreams expected to see what we saw...(Remember the last sonogram I had the baby looked like a blob, or to rephrase that nicely, a Lima Bean!)

As I looked at the screen I saw a perfectly formed miniature baby! I could see everything: the adorable turned up nose, sweet puckered up lips, hands, feet, and the heart beating like crazy in its little chest. Then the baby started moving its arms around!!!! We were shocked. I asked the sonogram technician if those were movements or random twitches....she assured me they were movements lol The baby even did a somersault before our very eyes. This baby may only be the size of an orange but it looks just like any other baby (sure its head is still a little over sized) but it is a REAL BABY. It was so precious how this little thing moved and kicked. It then laid on its back and we just stared at its beautiful little profile :) Wow...this whole pregnancy thing just became REALITY. Not to mention I will find out the gender of the baby in 18 days!

I know I should not be shocked, but WOW!... I have a real life miniature baby growing inside of's mind boggling and a little surreal! I don't really have the words to explain the emotions and excitement I felt but I guess I now know a tiny bit of what it feels like to be a mother. I am sure to some of you this my seem crazy, weird and a little dramatic but "to all the fellow mothers out there" you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about :)

The only words I have to sum this up is: Reality is finally setting in....

Sweet Nose, Puckered-Up Lips & Fist in the air

Our precious baby waving ;)

Close Up :)

The Days of the PINK Sweats

I must start off by saying two things #1) this Blog is a good two weeks over due so I apologize & #2) I should be fired for what I am about to confess. You see, one of my girl friends and I own a styling company called Tres Chic. We style clients, build outfits, personal shop & organize wardrobes. So what I am about to confess is pretty much a fashion sin (but pregnancy makes you do crazy things).

So here it goes...These past 12 weeks have been a roller coaster. Between the tiredness, fatigue & nausea I can barely make myself shower (I am SERIOUS ask my husband!) Don't worry the longest I went with out a shower was 4 days lol. If the people on Survivor can go 40 days I figured I could go 4 days. Well, since I could barely make myself shower I most definitely was not in the mood to dress cute. As a stylist you would think I would be having a ball setting cute pregnancy trends; the opposite is actually true! All I have been wearing 7 days a week is PINK SWEATS...YES PINK SWEATS.  Most girls have their go to pieces, mine use to be a cute pair of skinny jeans, above the knee black leather boots, a loose top and a black blazer. Ummm but that has sure changed!  Instead my new go to pieces are a pair of baby pink Victoria Secret sweats and a baby pink Victoria Secret zip up sweat shirt. Now I do have 3 pink sweat suits so I am not wearing the exact same one every day. Although I would be lying if I said I changed my clothes daily lol.

So basically everyone who has seen me the past few weeks can definitely vouch for me and say that they have seen the famous PINK SWEATS a good number of times! Let me give you a few examples of how serious the pink sweat problem has gotten. First of all, one night as I was brushing my teeth John looked over and asked me if I wanted him to BUY me another sweat suit! John is as frugal as they come, and the fact that he offered to spend money and expand my sweat suit collection is HUGE! When I asked him why he thought I need more sweats he explained that I wore the same pair every day and they had little fuzz balls all over them (I guess the fuzz balls are a result of over wearing them). Well a few days later my mom and I decided to check out a baby boutique in Plano. It was hard enough to muster the strength to even drive to the boutique, but I went in hopes of finding some cute baby furniture. When I walked into the store I was completely ignored! That never happens to me, I was in shock. The sales ladies didn't even look my way. They didn't say "Hi" or "Can I Help You". They just talked among themselves. I was beyond insulted and I can honestly say I will not spend one penny in that store! Anyways, as I was driving home I decided to call John and tell him what happened. I explained everything that happened and I told him how I could not believe that they didn't even come over and ask me if I needed help! When I finished telling the story I expected John to comfort me and say, "Sorry Babe" or "We will find another baby boutique" or "They must have been young immature workers" but he said nothing like that. Instead my husband said, "Babe were you wearing your pink sweats?" I was so mad! My husband thought that I was not helped in the store because I was probably wearing my embarrassingly ugly pink sweats! First of all I was NOT wearing my pink sweats and second of all, even if I was wearing them, I still deserve some help when I go into a baby boutique!

Needless to say my husbands comment explains how the last few weeks of my life have been spent! At home and in my comfy, stained, worn, pink sweats. Yes folks, pregnancy will do this to you.

The FIRST Of Many First's To Come....

February 1, 2011

I am in my 11th week of pregnancy and I recently experienced a FIRST. I know that pregnancy comes with a lot of first's and I am really excited about some of those marvelous first's! For example I can not wait to feel the first flutter of the baby, or to feel the first kick, or to see the first sonogram picture where the baby looks like more than a blob and I can't wait to hear the heart beat for the first time! However there are some first's that I am not so excited for; and this weekend I experienced one of those not so joyful first's

Saturday morning I had to wake up at the crack of dawn to work a pick-up/drop-off shift for the Junior League of Plano. I am a provisional in the JLP and my class is in charge of Trinkets 2 Treasure (which is a HUGE rummage sale). We collect donations and then we have a mega garage sale at the Plano Convention Center. Different families are given gift certificates so they can shop for free and others who just love to thrift come and sort through all the loot we collect. All of this to say, I woke up extra early Saturday morning, so I could shower and get ready for my all day shift at the storage facility where people were going to begin to drop off their donations for Trinkets 2 Treasure. Mornings have not really been my friend throughout this pregnancy. Mornings = throwing up, dizziness, extreme tiredness & fatigue. This morning however started off pretty pleasant! After my shower I put on my bathrobe and did my hair and make-up (no throwing up and no dizziness!). I was even having a good hair day! To top it all off my sweet hubby brought me a Strawberries Wild Jamba Juice to take with me to my shift! But then things suddenly changed....You see, I did not realize that the last 2 weeks I had completely avoided normal clothes. I wore sweats, jogging suits, and leggings with long tops. I had not put on a pair of jeans in 2 weeks! For my Junior League shift I had to wear jeans and my black JLP shirt. The night before I had pulled them out of my closet and they were laying out perfectly for me just to throw on. It was time for me to get dressed, so I put on my black shirt and then went to put on my Seven For All Mankind Jeans (which I have had for years!). As I proceeded to pull my jeans up I experienced a problem! They seemed extra snug and I had to sort of jump to pull them up over my hips. Once I got them on I went to zip up my zipper (but that did NOT go as planned). My zipper would only go up half way and there was NO way on earth I was going to get that button closed!!! Yup I just OUT GREW my FIRST PAIR OF JEANS! For the first time in my life my jeans would NOT zip. I even laid on the bed and with the help of my husband I was able to zip and button them, but then when John pulled me up onto my feet, the button almost flew off! There was absolutely NO way I could button this pair of jeans. Yes, I understand that I am pregnant but my goodness I did not think I would out grow my jeans until I was at least 16-20 weeks along. I am only 11 weeks pregnant and my baby is still the size of a small plum! I have had friends who could wear their normal jeans until their 3rd trimester so what is wrong with me!!!! I did get a bit emotional and a few tears may have been shed. But I finally got myself together and decided I would just fast the next 2 weeks....LOL JK JK JK!!! I would never ever do that ;) But my ride was at the house to pick me up so I had to think of something quick. I remembered an old trick that Stacey my sister in law did with a hair tie. She stuck the hair tie through the buttonhole and then wrapped it around the button. It does work even though I did not plan on trying it for another 5 least! But you gotta do what you gotta do.

So needless to say, I OUT GREW MY FIRST PAIR OF JEANS this past weekend. I am not proud of this at all, but I guess it is just part of the pregnancy adventure. I am still absolutely positively NOT going to buy my first pair of maternity jeans for at least 3 or 4 more months (I am not ready to take on that first yet) but I may suck it up and eventually buy a Belly Band...(we will see). So this was not one of my glorious first's however it was a first and I will always remember this Saturday morning. Hopefully the next first will call for a celebration instead of mourning lol.

So I Experienced the FIRST of many Firsts to Come...
